The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show is the largest motorcycle expo in the world. Learn what to expect and how to get value from this exciting motorcycle expo.

The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show series tours 11 cities from November to February each year. The largest motorcycle expo in the world allows manufacturers enough space to showcase their entire new suite of new motorcycles while filling other exhibition halls with vendors, motorcycle services and non-profits.

The motorcycle expo has been a feature of the North American off-season since 1981. The event's original title was the Great American Motorcycle and ATV Show, and it has been run by Advanstar Communications, Inc., since 1988. Cycle World is the title sponsor; AMA and MSF both endorse the event.

What to Expect at the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show

The motorcycle expo usually consists of one or two large halls for motorcycle manufacturer exhibits, and several smaller, themed halls. The motorcycle vendors have their newest bikes out on display and the visitor can clamber aboard and test her "fit." There is often a separate hall for non-profits and clubs, and at least one space for equipment vendors.

Apart from the exhibits, riders can sign up for test rides, see demonstrations of stunt riding, and ask questions. There is a Hub area with a program of lectures and demonstrations, and a new rider information center where, as the name suggests, neophyte riders can get information about safety classes, ask questions and gain access to resources. Vendors often offer superb deals at the motorcycle expo; in a single day the visitor can accomplish an entire year's motorcycle shopping.

Getting the Most out of a Visit to the Motorcycle Expo

At the entrance, volunteers are usually on hand with plastic bags for the dozens of brochures most visitors will accumulate. Vendors typically have some kind of hand-out, whether it be a brochure, a set of free stickers or magazines. Be sure to acquire at least two of these bags on the way in.

There is usually food at the motorcycle expo. This writer has had poor experiences with long lines ending in pricey, poor-quality food. If the venue's rules permit it, it may be better just to bring snacks or a picnic.

Vendor lists are published in advance. An organized rider can figure out what he wants to see and plan a route accordingly, saving much effort. It can be exhausting to tour such a vast event – over the day a visitor may cover several miles.

Information About the 2009/2010 Season of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show

For the 2009/2010 season, adult tickets are $13.50-$15.00 per day; child tickets are $6 per day. On Friday night, women receive half-price admission for "ladies' night." On Sundays, a child is admitted free with every adult ticket. Additionally, tickets purchased online usually come with discounts and, sometimes, coupons.
